Headlice - How To Treat Them
There are a lot of home remedies for head lice. One of the best lice treatment is- Mix some mayo and vinegar in a bowl, until it looks similar to a cake batter. Then drop about 8 drops of tea tree oil in the mix, stir. The smell will be strong it comes off when shampooed. Now you put the mix in the hair by separating the hair into about one inch sections as you go, make sure you put it all over the scalp area of the separated hair and then spread it all down the lock of hair.
It is easiest to start at the back of the head and work your way up. Once you have done the whole head, wrap the hair up with a clip on the top (if the hair is long) and put a shower cap or grocery bag over the hair, press the bag down to remove the air. Leave on for a minimum of 2 hours.
Take your spray bottle and fill it about three-quarters of the way with water. Then drop about 20 drops of tea tree oil into the bottle. Shake the bottle until the solution is well-mixed. While waiting for your hair to process, you can take your spray bottle and treat your carpeting, upholstered furniture, bedding, clothing, and anything else where lice might live. You don't need to saturate carpets and furniture. A light misting over the entire surface will be enough.
Head lice, ticks, fleas, and other insect pests totally hate the smell of tea tree oil which also makes it an excellent spray repellant to use on pets. By adding 5-10 drops of tea tree oil to your child's shampoo, you'll make sure that even though your child is with children who have head lice, he or she won't be likely to pick it up from them. Head lice will actually avoid them.
When two hours have passed, rinse with water until the water is clear. You should see the dead headlice on top of the hair as you rinse it. It is truly a sight to see. Afterwards, comb through the hair with a hairlice comb to remove the dead bugs as well as any nits leftover. The nit eggs are easily removed since the vinegar dissolves the glue holding the eggs to the hair shaft. You can also rinse with conditioner prior to combing.
After these very simple steps you and your home will remain lice free. As with any lice treatment you will want to repeat these steps 7-10 days after the first treatment, to make certain that no lice eggs have survived. You will want to keep spraying the oil and water mix around your house just incase someone comes to your home with lice. This treatment is the fastest, cheapest, easiest, and unlike the others it is 100%.
You may hear of many home remedies for head lice. One such lice treatment for headlice is to mix vinegar and mayo into a bowl until it has the consistency of cake batter. Add to this mix about 8 drops of tea tree oil. The aroma is somewhat overpowering, but will shampoo out. Section the hair into one-inch sections, brush the mixture starting at the scalp and spreading it down the length of hair. A word of caution: vinegar can burn eyes, so be careful to cover them with a cloth while applying, and when you wash it out.
